Description
A busy multi-specialty medical billing company is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Medical Collector to join our team. The Medical Collector will be responsible for following up on outstanding insurance and patient accounts, resolving unpaid and denied claims, and helping maintain a healthy accounts receivable balance.
The ideal candidate has experience with medical collections, understands insurance claims and EOBs, and is comfortable communicating professionally with insurance companies and patients.
Requirements
- Follow up on outstanding medical claims and accounts receivable.
- Contact insurance companies regarding unpaid, denied, or underpaid claims.
- Review EOBs and payment information to identify discrepancies and determine appropriate follow-up.
- Research and resolve claim denials, billing issues, and payment delays.
- Contact patients regarding outstanding balances when necessary.
- Verify insurance information and identify responsible payers.
- Maintain accurate and timely notes on all collection activities.
- Monitor aging reports and prioritize accounts based on balance and age.
- Communicate with insurance companies, patients, clients, and internal billing staff to resolve account issues.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of medical collection experience.
- Experience with EPIC, eClinical Works, Athena Health, and Tebra practice management and EHR billing software preferred.
- Experience with Medicare, Illinois Medicaid, and commercial insurances.
- Knowledge of insurance claims, EOBs, denials, and payment processes.
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and basic medical terminology is a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple accounts and meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain a professional, effective and courteous manner when communicating.
- Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
