Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must possess one of the following credentials: CCA, CCS, CCS-P, COBGC, CPC or CPC-A.
• College level Applied Science courses in Anatomy/Physiology and Medical Terminology as required by certifying body.
• Two years ICD-10-CM and CPT coding experience or related coding courses acceptable to Health Information Management.

Responsibilities

• Codes medical observation, outpatient, emergency room and ambulatory surgery discharge records for reimbursement, research and compliance with federal regulations using ICD-9-CM and CPT-4.
• Abstracts information needed for statistical data and anesthesia improvement.
• Provides education to providers in regards to correct coding initiatives.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
