Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Records Coder to review patient records, interpret diagnoses, and assign ICD-10-CM/CPT codes for billing and statistical purposes.

Responsibilities include data abstraction, updating coding guidelines, and supporting cash-flow related to unbilled items. A minimum of 1 year coding experience and relevant certificates are preferred; HIPAA compliance is essential.

Qualifications

• High School/GED required.
• Completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• Minimum 1 year Hospital and/or Physician Coding.
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms.
• RHIT/RHIA/CCS-P/CPC/COC/CPC-A credentials are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to assign ICD-10-CM/CPT codes.
• Abstracts data elements for statistical requests and enters into the designated system.
• Manages unbilled coding report and cash flow efficiency.
• Keeps up to date with ICD-10-CM/CPT guidelines through training and clinics.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
