Job summary

The coder/abstracter at MUSC Community Physicians will accurately assign codes for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services based on the patient record. The coder uses ICD-10 and CPT coding systems in line with official guidelines and MUSC policies. All work supports HIM department standards and compliance.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, and 2+ years of coding experience in a specialty area, with RHIT/CCS/CCA/CPC/CPC-A or other credential required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• At least 2+ years of coding experience in a specialty area.
• RHIT, CCS, CCA, CPC, CPC-A or other coding credential required.

Responsibilities

• Code inpatient, outpatient, and emergency service diagnoses, procedures and conditions accurately.
• Apply ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines per official guidelines.
• Follow MUSC Health Information Management policies and procedures.
