Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) seeks a skilled coder/abstracter to assign accurate ICD-10-CPT-based codes for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services based on medical records. You will ensure alignment with AMA, AHA, and AHIMA guidelines and MUSC policies.

The ideal candidate has an associate degree in health information technology or 5 years coding experience, plus CPC/ CCS certification, with strong analytical and communication skills to resolve coding issues.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in health information technology or related field or 5 years coding experience.
• Coding certification required (CPC, CCS).
• Strong analytical skills and ability to resolve coding issues; effective communication.

Responsibilities

• The coder/abstracter is responsible for accurate code assignment of all inpatient, outpatient, and emergency service diagnoses, procedures and conditions as indicated in the patient medical record.
• Classification systems include ICD-10 and CPT edition; coding follows AMA, AHA, and AHIMA guidelines.
• All work is carried out in accordance with Health Information Management Department and MUSC policies.
