Job summary

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) seeks an experienced coder/abstracter to accurately assign codes for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services. Coders work with ICD-10 and CPT, following AMA, AHA, and AHIMA guidelines.

Required education is a high school diploma or equivalent, with 2+ years of specialty coding experience and credentials such as RHIT, CCS, CCA, CPC, or CPC-A. This is a full-time, hourly role within MUSC's Health Information Management Department.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2+ years of coding experience in a specialty area required.
• RHIT, CCS, CCA, CPC, CPC-A, or other coding credential required.

Responsibilities

• Coder/abstracter is responsible for accurate code assignment of inpatient, outpatient, and emergency service diagnoses, procedures and conditions in the patient medical record.
• Codes using ICD-10 and CPT editions in accordance with official coding guidelines from AMA, AHA, AHIMA.
• Ensures all coding is performed in line with Health Information Management Department policies and MUSC procedures.
