Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Records Abstractor to perform thorough medical record review, abstract data, assign ICD codes, and assist in reducing accounts receivable days. You will ensure accuracy and compliance with coding guidelines while updating knowledge on ICD changes.

The role requires attention to detail, familiarity with medical terminology, and ability to work with health care teams in a fast-paced environment. High school or GED and coding experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year in hospital coding
• Successful completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology
• CCS or CIC certification
• Familiarity with medical terminology
• Strong data entry skills
• Understanding of computer applications
• Ability to work with health care team

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to determine ICD codes (65%)
• Abstracts data elements for statistical requests and enters coded information
• Manages unbilled coding reports to support cash flow
• Keeps updated on ICD guideline changes via training and resources
• Performs other duties as assigned or required
