Description

The Medical Assistant Team Lead is responsible for assisting physicians with patient care, including obtaining vital signs, and performing clerical and organizational tasks such as appointment scheduling and chart management. This role involves leading and mentoring less experienced Medical Assistants.

Responsibilities

  1. Supervise and direct less experienced Medical Assistants, assigning duties such as vital signs collection and phlebotomy. Provide training, mentorship, and performance input.
  2. Manage patient schedules and ensure smooth patient flow.
  3. Assist patients in exam rooms, helping with walking, sitting, or standing as needed.
  4. Chart patient information under nursing supervision.
  5. Handle patient charts, reports, and requisitions, ensuring proper documentation and filing.
  6. Verify insurance coverage and update patient demographics, reconcile forms, and ensure completeness of chart information.
  7. Maintain cleanliness and proper functioning of exam/procedure rooms and instruments.
  8. Perform proficient phlebotomy duties if required.
  9. Schedule surgeries/procedures, prepare charts, and coordinate with surgical teams as necessary.
  10. Follow PPE protocols to ensure safety against exposure to blood, body fluids, chemicals, radiation, and other hazards.
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a recognized Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience (minimum 3 years). Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
  • Medical Assistant certification from an approved school or equivalent experience. Certification preferred.
  • BCLS certification from AHA required.
