Job Description: Senior Benefits Manager

We are looking to place a Senior Benefits Manager contractor for our Healthcare provider client in New York City. The role is a remote position, but rare travel may be required. The position will report into the Total Rewards Director’s organization. The assignment is for 6 months initially – could go longer for the right candidate.

This role is responsible for leading the benefits strategy and administration of our client’s employee benefit program. This includes the design, implementation and maintenance of the program. Acting as a subject matter expert in the benefits space complemented by a technical skill set for maintaining the benefit administration system. The benefits manager owns vendor and broker relationships, manages employee escalations, owns annual compliance requirements and the open enrollment strategy and execution. This role also leads the communication and implementation of a wellness program.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of our current benefit plans and offerings, and the Workday Benefits module.
  • Manage the annual review of the health and welfare program to achieve competitive market position while aligning with the overall Total Rewards Strategy
  • Lead the execution of Annual Open Enrollment including aligning leadership on the renewal
  • Strategy, coordinating with the Workday team, setting the open enrollment calendar, employee communications, and the preparation of benefit educational materials and presentations.
  • Serves as the SME and works with the People Service Center for employee escalations.
  • Streamlines the administrative processes for all benefit administration and ensures the documentation of these procedures.
  • Oversee the reconciliation, approval, and processing of monthly benefit invoices.
  • Oversee the administration of the 401k plan and the 401k Committee. Works with the 401k administrator, financial planners, and auditors to ensure audit compliance with 401k plan and annual 5500 filings.
  • Conduct related analysis to support audit requirements.
  • Ensures the timely completion of regulatory reports and filings including 5500s and plan audits.
  • Curate and execute a wellness program to drive employee engagement that aligns with Oscar’s Culture.

Required education and experience

  • 6+ years of benefits experience
  • Experience with start-ups a plus
  • Experience as a benefits consultant and in-house consultant a plus
  • Experience creating benefits offerings for tech and/or fast-growth start-ups
  • Experience presenting complex information across varying levels of seniority
  • Preferred education and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 years commensurate experience
  • HR certifications (i.e. SPHR, PHR, SHRM-SCP)
  • Experience with Workday and Workday Benefits
  • Experience creating wellness-based programming
  • Experience managing 5500 filings, 1094/95C, NDT and annual audit relative to 401K
