General Summary of Position

Job Summary:

MedStar Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team at the Urgent Care in Waldorf.

The Medical Assistant performs clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under supervision. Responsibilities include venipuncture, medication and vaccine administration, vital signs measurement and documentation, assisting with patient exams, and providing clerical support. The position may require floating to other sites within the system.

Primary Duties

1. Assist providers with patient exams, procedures, and education, ensuring smooth clinical workflows.
2. Screen patients for preventive care, safety, and behavioral health needs; support care coordination.
3. Perform clinical tasks such as vital signs, lab tests, phlebotomy, EKGs, medication administration, and EMR documentation.
4. Maintain compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards, including equipment and infection control.
5. Provide administrative support, handle patient communications, medication refills, and float to other sites as needed.

Qualifications

1. High School Diploma (Required)
2. Completion of Medical Assistant certification program (Preferred)
3. Less than 1 year and 6 months of experience in an ambulatory care medical office or equivalent (Required). Externship experience in a medical setting is strongly preferred and may substitute for experience.
4. For Cardiology offices: 6 months of experience in an ambulatory care setting, or a related degree/coursework.
5. Prior experience as a medical assistant (Preferred)
6. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by AAMA or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by AMT within 1 year (Required)
7. CPR certification (AHA or Red Cross) within 90 days (Required)

This position offers a hiring range of $19.17 - $33.08.
