Job Title: Medical Assistant

Position Overview: UPMC Department of Physical Medicine and Rehab is hiring a full-time Medical Assistant in Oakland, PA. Hours are Monday through Friday, primarily daylight hours from 8 am to 5:30 pm, with no evenings, weekends, or holidays required. Responsibilities include rooming patients, taking vitals, reviewing medications, assisting with scheduling, and screening patients prior to appointments. Previous Medical Assistant experience is preferred.

Applicants will be placed on the Medical Assistant Career Ladder based on experience and education, with corresponding salary.

Responsibilities:

1. Handle patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.
2. Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information; complete forms and requisitions; schedule appointments; verify insurance and patient demographics; manage and organize charts.
3. Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments, and maintain infection control standards. Manage inventory of supplies.
4. Organize patient flow, assist patients with walking, transfers, dressing, specimen collection, and preparation for exams. Take patient history, vitals, and perform screenings.
5. Answer calls, provide patient education, and relay information as directed.
6. Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and basic labs; assist physicians with procedures; document patient information.
7. Maintain compliance with OSHA, CLIA, and state health regulations; ensure confidentiality of records.
8. Administer injectable medications and vaccines under supervision, when appropriate.
