UPMC is hiring a Medical Assistant for their Orthopaedic Surgery department in Oakland.

This position offers Monday through Friday hours, mainly during daylight, with no evenings, weekends, or holidays required. Responsibilities include back office duties, rooming patients, scheduling tests, wound care, casting, dressing changes, and suture removals. Previous Medical Assistant experience is preferred.

Applicants will be placed on the Medical Assistant Career Ladder based on their experience and education.

Responsibilities:

• Manage patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.
• Obtain reports, complete forms, schedule appointments, verify insurance, and manage charts.
• Prepare exam rooms, set up instruments, and maintain infection control standards.
• Organize patient flow, assist with transfers, collect specimens, and take vitals.
• Answer calls, provide patient education, and perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and lab procedures.
• Adhere to regulatory requirements and maintain confidentiality.
• Assist physicians with procedures and administer injectable medications/vaccines under supervision.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, basic computer skills, and knowledge of medical terminology. CPR certification is required within 30 days of hire, along with other clearances and certifications.
