UPMCEye and Ear Institute - Full-Time Medical Assistant

UPMCEye and Ear Institute is hiring a Full-Time Medical Assistant. This position offers a Monday - Friday schedule with daylight hours, and no evenings, weekends, or holidays. The environment is fast-paced with a supportive team atmosphere.

The role requires travel to assist at Monroeville, Oakland, Shadyside, and Mercy locations based on scheduling needs. There is potential for a hybrid work arrangement after orientation and training.

Responsibilities:
  1. Send and receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other regulations.
  2. Obtain lab, x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
  3. Complete necessary forms and requisitions.
  4. Schedule patient appointments.
  5. Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  6. Prepare and manage patient charts, ensuring information is completed and filed correctly.
  7. Perform front office duties as required.
  8. Prepare patient rooms and set up instruments and equipment per protocol.
  9. Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
  10. Maintain scheduled maintenance and records for cleaning and equipment.
  11. Manage inventory and restock supplies in exam/procedure rooms.
  12. Organize patient flow and check schedules.
  13. Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms and assist with walking, transfers, dressing, specimen collection, and preparation.
  14. Collect patient information, take vital signs, and perform screenings as per provider guidelines.
  15. Relay instructions to patients and families.
  16. Answer calls and provide relevant information, including patient education.
  17. Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs.
  18. Assist physicians with procedures and document patient information accurately.
  19. Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies such as OSHA, CLIA, and the PA Department of Health.
  20. Maintain confidentiality of medical records and data.
  21. Follow all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
  22. Under supervision, administer injectable medications and vaccines when appropriate.
