Description

The Medical Assistant is a member of the healthcare team primarily responsible for supporting physicians, nurses, and other licensed medical staff by facilitating efficient patient flow, assisting with various patient care activities, and performing related administrative functions. Responsibilities include ensuring smooth patient flow, maintaining a clean and safe environment, promoting patient satisfaction through professional interactions, and safeguarding patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities

1. Assure efficient patient flow:

• Escort patients, identify with two identifiers, and prepare for examinations.
• Obtain and document vital signs and patient information accurately.
• Notify providers of significant changes or symptoms.
• Prepare exam rooms and equipment.

Assist practitioners with procedures such as ECG, venipuncture, immunizations, specimen collection, and waived testing.

Provide high-quality care by maintaining exam rooms, inventory, and equipment, and following safety protocols.

Interact professionally with patients and team members, participate in staff meetings, and communicate effectively.

Perform delegated procedures specific to the specialty area as assigned.

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

Required:

• Proof of eligibility to take one of five certification exams (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA, NRCMA).
• Documentation requirements vary for new graduates and non-certified MAs.
• Must complete certification within six months of employment.
• High school diploma or GED, BLS/CPR certification, and strong computer skills.

Preferred:

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
• One to two years of ambulatory care experience.
• Experience with electronic medical records.
