Medical Assistant - Oncology, Full Time Days ($2,000 Sign-on Bonus)

Description

The Medical Assistant reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Medical Assistant is a member of the healthcare team primarily responsible for supporting physicians, nurses, and other licensed staff by facilitating patient flow, assisting with patient care activities, and performing administrative functions. They ensure efficient patient flow, maintain clean and safe patient care areas, promote patient satisfaction through professional interaction, and safeguard patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities
  1. Ensure efficient patient flow:
    • Escort patients, verify identity, prepare for examinations.
    • Obtain and document vital signs, update patient records, and alert staff of significant changes.
    • Prepare exam rooms and respond to visit needs.
  2. Assist practitioners with procedures such as ECG, venipuncture, immunizations, specimen collection, and waived testing.
  3. Provide high-quality care by maintaining equipment, supplies, and sterile environments, and participating in safety rounds.
  4. Promote patient satisfaction through professional communication and teamwork.
  5. Perform delegated procedures safely and efficiently as per specialty protocols.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.

Note: A $2,000 sign-on bonus is available for external candidates and those not employed at NM within the past year.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Proof of eligibility for certification exam (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA, NRCMA).
  • For new graduates: a letter from school or certifying body within 6 months.
  • For non-certified or recent graduates: a certifying body letter.
  • Within 6 months of employment, complete one of the recognized certifications: CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA, or NRCMA.
All Candidates/Incumbents:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification.
  • Signed acknowledgment of certification requirement within 6 months.
  • Strong computer skills.
Preferred:
  • Completion of accredited MA training program.
  • 1-2 years ambulatory care experience.
  • Experience with electronic medical records.
