Job summary

Beacon Health System in Kalamazoo, MI seeks a Medical Assistant to support physicians and nursing staff. You will perform clerical and patient care duties, greet patients, take messages, collect information for records and billing, and help prepare patients for examination.

You'll perform basic lab tests, EKGs, administer medications as ordered, schedule procedures, manage the EMR, and maintain calendars. Spanish language skills are a plus; flexible hours and ongoing education are encouraged.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 17 years of age.
• Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Program or equivalent with Certification.
• If not certified, certification within 120 days of hire.
• Previous medical office experience.
• Spanish language skills desired.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist patients and visitors professionally.
• Answer phones and relay messages accurately.
• Obtain patient information for records and billing.
• Maintain patient files and charts.
• Assist physician and nurse with exams and procedures.
• Record medical history and prepare patient for examination.
• Perform routine labs and EKG tests and collect specimens.
• Administer medications and injections as ordered.
• Schedule procedures and coordinate hospital admissions.
• Triaging calls and directing patient care.
• Preload patient data into EMR.
• Maintain physician calendar and schedule.
• Attend required meetings and participate in education.
