Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide patient care under physician and nurse supervision. You will prepare patients, assist with sampling and testing, document results, and coordinate care to meet patient needs within the medical record.

The role requires a Medical Assistant training certificate or equivalent experience and involves a mix of clinical and clerical duties, all performed under strict infection control and hospital protocols.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program with certificate OR 1–3 years experience as a medical assistant, EMT or certified nursing attendant (with valid certificate) OR successful completion of the Northwell Health Medical Assistant training program.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with health care team to coordinate and implement plans for patient care; may record visit reasons and related information for practitioner review.
• Performs vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures; documents findings in the medical record.
• Collects specimens and assists providers in collection per protocols; completes requisitions and labels.
• Performs daily controls/calibration of laboratory equipment; informs supervisor of inaccurate controls.
• Performs electrocardiograms and phlebotomy per provider orders; adheres to infection control standards.
• Assists physicians and nurses with procedures and examinations following protocols; ensures supplies and patient preparation.
• Maintains orderliness of examination rooms; stocks supplies and logs checks.
• May assist with pre-visit chart preparation by ensuring required lab results are available.
• Performs other clerical duties to assure efficient flow of patients through the suite.
• All responsibilities are essential functions under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
