Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide patient care under physician and nurse supervision. You will prepare patients, obtain and record diagnostic lab results, and help organize and file medical records to meet patient needs.

The role involves assisting in procedures, maintaining room readiness, and supporting clerical tasks to ensure smooth patient flow throughout the clinic.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program with certificate.
• 1–3 years experience as a medical assistant, emergency medical technician, or certified nursing attendant with valid certificate.
• Successful completion of the Northwell Health Medical Assistant training program.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with health care team in coordinating and implementing plans for patient care; may record reason for visit and related patient information for practitioner review.
• Performs vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures; documents findings in the medical record.
• Collects and assists in collection of specimens following standard procedures; completes requisitions, labels and routes specimens.
• Performs and documents daily controls and calibration of laboratory equipment; informs supervisor of inaccurate controls.
• Performs electrocardiograms and phlebotomy per provider orders; follows infection control standards and PPE usage.
• Assists physicians and nurses with procedures and examinations, handling supplies, patient positioning and post-procedure care.
• Maintains examination rooms cleanliness; stocks rooms and checks logs and required equipment.
• May assist with pre-visit chart preparation by ensuring lab results and documents are available for practitioner review.
• Performs various clerical duties such as filing medical records, processing insurance forms, and ensuring efficient flow of patients.
