Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support smooth practice operations and patient care. You will perform clinical tasks, greet patients, and assist with scheduling while ensuring a courteous, helpful experience by phone and in person.

The role includes vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy, basic administrative duties, and coordination with licensed providers. Prior MA or related clinical experience plus basic computer skills are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 0-1 years related work experience required.
• MA, EMT, CNA, LNA certificate or diploma; or at least 5 months of direct patient care experience in a clinical or research setting.
• Basic familiarity with computers.
• Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

Responsibilities

• Performs medical assisting duties including vital signs, height and weight, EKGs, phlebotomy, and assisting during routine procedures.
• Ensures patient care areas are clean, organized, stocked and ready for patient use.
• Escorts patients to radiology and lab as needed.
• Performs point of care testing and specimen collection.
• Implements quality control standards for testing equipment.
• Provides patients with instructions for tests and procedures.
• Monitors and maintains medical equipment and supplies with expiration dates.
• Reviews medication lists in the electronic medical record for final review by licensed practitioners.
• Retrieves schedule VI and OTC medications under supervision; does not perform licensed duties.
• Uses the electronic medical record system (OMR) to queue prescription renewals.
• Enters orders in OMR as directed by a clinician.
• Documents tasks in OMR for accurate billing.
• Prepares schedules, charts and documents for clinical activities.
• Correlates medical correspondence as directed.
• Monitors patients and visitors entering and waiting.
• Facilitates timely flow and informs patients/providers of delays.
• Acts as liaison between patient and staff to ensure service delivery.
• Keeps waiting room materials organized and stocked.
