Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support care teams and patients through relationship building, efficient visit flow, and accurate documentation.

The role includes clinical tasks under supervision, vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy, immunizations, and patient education, with primary responsibility for efficient patient care and adherence to safety standards within an EHR environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 6 months clinical classroom.

Responsibilities

• Through relationship development and care team coordination, contributes to the BIDHC patient, practice, and organizational goals.
• Assists patient over the course of their visit: facilitates timely flow and informs patient and provider of any delay, engages with patient on visit reason, updates medication and allergy lists, reviews screening questions, acts as liaison between patient and staff to ensure optimal flow and service delivery.
• Communicates clearly with patient and team: provides hand-off to provider entering the exam room (reason for visit, abnormal vitals, patient stories).
• Performs medical assisting duties under supervision: obtaining vital signs, height/weight, performing EKGs, point of care testing, phlebotomy, immunizations (for MA program graduate), and assisting during routine procedures.
• Essential to Population Health: lead conversations to meet quality goals through outreach and health coaching, monitor activity, identify and address needs, assist with data gathering and basic health coaching.
• Monitors, orders, and maintains medical equipment and supplies, ensuring cleanliness, sterility, stock, and expiration dates; maintain unobstructed patient access.
• Works within EHR to queue prescription renewals, add new medications for review, and document tasks for proper billing.
• Schedules related diagnostic and lab tests, verifies insurance, including prior authorizations, referrals and pre-certifications.
• Identifies OSHA compliance issues and ensures patient safety practices to prevent harm; report adverse events; PHI used for treatment, payment, and operations.
