Job description

Medical Assistant (MA) or LPN - Family Medicine

Actual compensation ranges from $21.45 to $32.20 for an MA and $23.65 to $35.50 for an LPN, based on qualifications, skills, experience, and training.

Major Responsibilities
  1. Assist in providing patient-centered care in an outpatient setting, supporting clinical tasks under supervision to ensure efficient patient flow.
  2. Prepare patients for exams by obtaining vital signs and relevant health information.
  3. Perform laboratory procedures such as strep tests, wound cultures, and specimen collection following aseptic techniques.
  4. Assist physicians or advanced practice providers with procedures like pelvic exams, allergy testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, etc.
  5. Administer routine medications under orders, including immunizations, antibiotics, vitamins, and topical agents.
  6. Provide basic patient instructions, follow through on procedures or tests, and coordinate referrals and appointments.
  7. Communicate effectively with the healthcare team and patients to ensure smooth clinic operations and accurate information exchange.
  8. Perform advanced clinical tasks based on specialty and competency, such as suture removal, catheterization, audiograms, phlebotomy, EKG, spirometry, Holter monitoring, etc.
Licensure or Certifications

LPN: Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the state, and BLS certification within 45 days unless exempted.

MA: Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or two years of recent full-time experience as a Medical Assistant.

Degrees

GED or high school equivalency diploma. LPNs must have completed an accredited Practical Nursing program.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Effective communication skills, interpersonal skills, and basic keyboarding skills.
  • Experience with different age groups preferred.
  • CPR certification required within 60 days of hire; non-certified MAs must obtain certification within one year.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Ability to complete clinic training, work under stress, and perform extended standing and sitting.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds; patient handling equipment should be used for heavier lifts.
