Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Medical Assistant to support ambulatory care operations. You will report to the Practice Manager, assist physicians and nurses, and provide high-quality patient care across various tasks including EKGs, injections, phlebotomy and records management.

Requirements include a Medical Assistant Certificate, a high school diploma, 1–3 years of relevant experience, and strong English communication. Proficiency with EMR and MS Office is expected.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Certificate 1 Medical Assistant Certificate required.
  • 1-3 years related work experience required.
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
  • Written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in small teams.
  • Ability to provide professional, respectful, service-oriented customer service and remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Competence providing patient care to neonatal, youth, young adult, middle-aged and elderly age groups.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Practice Manager or Ambulatory Practice Coordinator, with input from assigned physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers.
  • Deliver high-quality service to patients and contribute to smooth practice operations.
  • Serve as a role model by supporting, training and sharing knowledge with Medical Assistants, MA student externs and Practice Assistants.
  • Recommend more effective use of resources.
  • Identify and resolve OSHA compliance issues.
  • Audit and maintain point-of-care testing and track test results.
  • Participate in practice improvement initiatives and small projects.
  • Greet patients and serve as a communication resource.
  • Collect and communicate complete, accurate patient information to providers.
  • Respond to phone calls and requests promptly and courteously.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and ensure availability of X-rays, lab slips, medical records and other information.
  • Obtain vital signs, weight, blood pressure, pulse and temperature.
  • Perform EKGs, injections and/or phlebotomy and assist providers.
  • Perform departmental screening, laboratory tests and specimen collection.
  • Implement quality control standards.
  • Procure medical records and ensure proper patient identification on records and documents.
  • Add medications to patient records in the EMR system.
  • Assemble records according to BIDHC/APG policy and handle patient information requests according to established guidelines.
