Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support direct patient care under supervision, perform basic lab work, and manage front-office tasks. You will help ensure accurate and timely execution of orders and referrals, while maintaining organized EHR records and supporting registration and scheduling activities.

The role may involve mentoring MA team members and externs as directed by leadership; completion of a Medical Assistant program is required for new hires after Oct 12,

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; must complete within 13 months from start date.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience.
• New hires and promotions after Oct 12, 2026 require graduation from a Medical Assistant program.
• AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification is required.
• OSHA, CLIA, and ADA knowledge.
• Knowledge of Business Unit Quality Programs and Standard Work Programs within 6 months of hire.
• Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures.
• Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers.
• Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care and Skills Competency checklists.
• Requires basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills.
• Must be able to meet the technical and physical standards.
• Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and clinical direction to support patient care delivery.
• Perform general lab work and instruct patients concerning procedures and needs.
• Ensure all medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately and timely.
• Perform registration and scheduling activities per procedures.
• Maintain EHR files and perform general front office functions as needed.
• May precept MA team members or MA externs as requested by leadership.
