Job summary

IU Health in Lafayette, IN is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to support direct patient care and clinical direction consistent with organization standards. You will ensure smooth patient flow, perform basic lab work, and guide patients on procedures and needs.

The role includes EMR maintenance, front office tasks, and potential precepting of MA team members or externs as directed by leadership. Full-time hours, Monday–Friday, with no weekends or holidays.

Qualifications

• AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Workers certification required.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; Medical Assistant program preferred.
• Current CMA/RMA/CCMA/NCMA/CMAC certification(s) required.
• Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA required.
• Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding required.
• TB validated or validation within 6 months of hire preferred.
• Knowledge of Quality Programs and Meaningful Use within 6 months of hire.
• Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures.
• Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers.
• Ability to master clinical competencies per current policy and checklists.
• Requires basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills.

Responsibilities

• Direct patient care and clinical direction to provide patient care per standards.
• Ensure completeness of ordered procedures and treatments and smooth patient flow.
• Perform general lab work and instruct patients on procedures and needs.
• Handle registration and scheduling activities per procedures.
• Maintain EMR files and perform general front office functions as needed.
• Precept MA team members or MA externs as requested by leadership.
