Job summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide clinical, laboratory, and clerical support in our Hospital. The role includes assisting physicians, preparing patients for procedures, taking vital signs, collecting specimens, and handling standard lab tasks.

The position operates within the NY HELPS program framework and requires meeting minimum qualifications for the title. Non-supervisory clinical duties comprise at least 50% of the work, with front-desk and support tasks also

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year full-time experience performing clinical and clerical support activities in a health care setting.
• Completion of a college, university, technical school or vocational school medical assistant program.

Responsibilities

• Perform screening and measuring procedures (height, weight, BP, pulse, temp, EKG).
• Greet and direct patients, answer phones, and route calls.
• Check lab orders, collect specimens, and assist with exams and procedures.
• Prepare patient information packets and assist with patient care tasks.
• Maintain stock in patient care areas and reorder supplies.
