Job summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide clinical, laboratory, and clerical support in our hospital. The role encompasses patient preparation for exams, phlebotomy, routine data recording, and coordinating patient flow to ensure efficient care.

The position includes direct patient contact, collaboration with physicians and nursing staff, and adherence to HIPAA and universal precautions.

Responsibilities

• Perform screening and measuring procedures (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, EKG) and document results.
• Prepare patients for examination or laboratory tests and assist physicians with procedures, including chaperoning where needed.
• Check lab orders, collect specimens per order, and ensure proper handling and labeling.
• Greet patients and family members, direct them to appropriate locations, and respond to routine questions.
• Answer phones, screen and route calls, and take complete and accurate messages for staff.
• Maintain stock in patient care areas, conduct inventory, and reorder medical and office supplies.
