Job summary

Stony Brook CPMP is seeking a Medical Assistant in East Setauket, NY. The role supports physicians and clinical staff, handling routine clinical and clerical tasks, patient check-in, vitals, specimen collection, and room preparation.

The position requires MA program completion, solid medical terminology knowledge, and strong customer service. Typical hours are Monday–Friday 8:30–5 with possible evenings/weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED.
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant program.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Exceptional customer service and telephone etiquette.
• Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow.
• Computer and/or EMR experience.

Responsibilities

• Place patients in examination rooms and document vitals and reason for visit in the EMR.
• Perform measurements (height, weight, BP, pulse, temperature).
• Prepare rooms and equipment for exams and procedures.
• Collect blood or other specimens as requested.
• Perform routine laboratory tests.
• Enter proposed orders into EMR for physician review and approval.
• Obtain previous test results from outside labs and offices.
• Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and instructions to patients clearly.
• Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of instruments; dispose of contaminated supplies.
• Maintain adequate medical inventory in exam rooms.
• Order supplies as needed.
• Ensure HIPAA and OSHA guidelines are followed.
• Handle administrative duties: phones, scheduling, etc.
• Update telephone encounters and forward to staff/providers.
