Job summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a Medical Assistant to support clinical, laboratory, and clerical tasks in the hospital setting. You will assist physicians, prepare patients for procedures, record vital signs, collect specimens, and ensure smooth patient flow.

This role emphasizes teamwork under nursing supervision, with responsibilities ranging from greeting patients to handling phones and coordinating supplies. Experience with EMR is preferred, and per diem schedule offers flexibility.

Qualifications

• One year of clinical and clerical support in a health care setting.
• Or completion of a medical assistant program.
• Preferred: EMR experience, BLS or Heart Saver certification, and current Medical Assistant certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform screening and measuring procedures (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, EKG) and document results.
• Prepare patients for exams or laboratory tests and assist physicians during examinations.
• Check lab orders, process patient orders, and collect specimens per order.
• Greet patients and families, direct them, and answer routine questions; answer phones and route calls.
• Maintain stock in patient care areas and reorder medical and office supplies as needed.
