Job summary

WellMed, part of the Optum family, is seeking a Medical Assistant in Plano, TX. The MA will assist physicians and nursing staff, operate basic diagnostic equipment, and ensure patient readiness and comfort.

Responsibilities include specimen collection, wound care, and documentation in the medical record, under supervision. Qualifications include national MA certification or pending within 180 days, BLS, and knowledge of medical terminology.

Qualifications

• Current, nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification or the ability to obtain within 180 days.
• Current BLS certification for healthcare providers at time of hire or within 30 days.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Basic computer literacy with intermediate Excel skills.
• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• TB screening and immunity proof for MMR, varicella, tetanus and pertussis.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties within Medical Assistant scope, supports physicians and nursing staff.
• Operates diagnostic equipment, collects specimens, and prepares examinations.
• Coordinates patient care per physician and policy directives.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and delivers quality customer service.
• Organizes exam/treatment rooms and ensures infection control.
• Documents patient care accurately in medical records.
• Follows Standard Delegation of Orders and supports related duties.
