Job summary

WellMed, part of the Optum family, is seeking a Medical Assistant to support physicians and nursing staff in Texas. You will perform wound care, blood draws, basic medication administration, EKGs, and other clinical tasks under supervision, while delivering courteous, confidential patient care.

The role emphasizes proper infection control, accurate documentation, and teamwork within the clinical staff. Certification within 180 days is expected; BLS is required.

Qualifications

• Certification as Medical Assistant or ability to obtain within 180 days of employment.
• Current BLS certification for healthcare providers at time of hire or within 30 days of hire.
• Proven knowledge of medical terminology.
• Basic computer literacy including Word, Excel, Outlook and EMR systems.
• Proven ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• Tuberculosis screening and immunity proof through lab confirmation or vaccination.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties within the scope of a Medical Assistant's practice, including assisting with wound care, blood collection, administration of non-intravenous medications, and performing EKGs.
• Quality control checks on equipment and preparation/sterilization of medical equipment.
• Rooms patients, prepares for examination, and records patient care documentation accurately.
• Coordinates patient care as directed by physicians and protects patient confidentiality.
• Organizes exam and treatment rooms, stocks supplies, and follows infection control precautions.
• Screening intake activities and gathering information without clinical judgment.
• Supports Standard Delegation of Orders (SDO) and performs other related duties.
