Job summary

WellMed, part of the Optum family, seeks a Medical Assistant to support patient care under supervision of a provider in Texas. The MA will assist physicians and nursing staff, perform procedures, and ensure patient comfort and safety.

You will help room patients, document care, coordinate with the care team, and uphold infection control standards while maintaining confidentiality. Certification and BLS are required, with willingness to obtain within 180 days.

Qualifications

• Current Medical Assistant certification or ability to obtain within 180 days.
• Current BLS certification for healthcare providers at time of hire or within 30 days.
• Proven knowledge of medical terminology.
• Basic computer literacy including Word, Excel, Outlook and EMR systems.
• Proven ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• TB screening and immunity confirmation required.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties within Medical Assistant scope of practice and assists with procedures.
• Rooms patients and prepares for examination.
• Records patient care documentation timely and accurately.
• Coordinates patient care per physician orders and policies.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and respectful care.
• Maintains exam rooms and sterilizes instruments.
• Follows infection control practices and SDO directives.
• Screening and intake support without clinical judgment.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
