Schedule: Hours vary Mon.-Fri. from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. One evening and one weekend shift every 2 weeks.

Job Summary

Assists the physician and team in providing medical care to patients of the Orthopaedic and/or Pain clinic. Maintains patients’ electronic medical records and provides exceptional customer service to patients, families, and colleagues.

Qualifications and Education

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of an accredited business school or college with focus in medical assisting preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Current Medical Assistant certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain before working independently with patients.
  • Level I: Limited experience, typically through internship or externship.
  • Level II: Minimum of three years of experience as a Medical Assistant, with two years in orthopaedics preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, especially orthopaedic-specific disorders.
  • Ability to effectively use electronic medical records system.
  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 80% of work time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Welcomes patients and assists during examinations.
  • Interviews patients, measures vitals, and records information.
  • Prepares treatment rooms and assists with procedures like sutures, injections, casts, and splints.
  • Documents in electronic medical records.
  • Coordinates scheduling and assists with patient inquiries.
  • Submits prescriptions electronically or telephonically.
  • Level II: Supports team leads, acts as agent for licensed providers, travels as needed, and mentors new hires.
Other Information

Physical Demands: Moderate effort, including standing, walking, lifting up to 25 pounds, and responding to emergencies.

Work Environment: Climate-controlled with occasional outdoor work.

Licenses & Certifications: BLS required; Medical Assistant certification preferred.
