Job description

Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant performs both clinical and administrative duties that directly support efficient clinic flow, effective and safe clinic operations, and an excellent patient experience. The Medical Assistant supports patient care by taking medical histories, accurately capturing and documenting patient vital signs, requesting and updating patient medical records, communicating with patients, and providing documentation for patients or members of the healthcare team while maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. The primary responsibilities may vary based on state regulations.

  1. Greet and escort patients to exam rooms, gather patient history, take and record vital signs, prepare patients for examinations, and document all information in patient medical records.
  2. Support the delivery of high-quality patient experiences through excellent customer service and communication with patients, families, and other care providers, while ensuring a safe patient care environment.
  3. Assist physicians and/or advanced practice providers in preparing and conducting medical exams and office procedures under direct guidance and supervision.
  4. Perform applicable medical procedures, collect and prepare laboratory specimens, administer injections/immunizations, and perform venipuncture, as allowed by state regulations.
  5. Communicate information and instructions to patients as directed by the physician, advanced practice provider, or nursing staff, ensuring patient understanding.
  6. Assist with scheduling tests, treatments, follow-up appointments, and communicate test results to patients.
  7. Ensure exam rooms are clean, stocked with adequate supplies, maintain instruments, and prepare sterilization as required.
  8. Respond to calls and requests for referrals and appointments, triage and process messages, and maintain patient files and records.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education Level: Diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant program required. MA certification required; if not currently certified, certification must be obtained within 6 months to 1 year depending on state requirements.

Experience: 1+ years of experience in an office-based healthcare setting preferred.

Industry: Healthcare

  • CPR certification required
  • Ability to follow universal precautions, maintain OSHA standards, and HIPAA regulations.
  • This position requires at least 50% travel, regularly traveling to 4 of the 8 practice locations.
