Job summary

Henry Ford Health in Detroit seeks a Medical Assistant to support providers and nursing leadership at Lakeside Medical Center in Sterling Heights. The role blends administrative and clinical tasks to ensure a smooth patient experience.

You will greet patients, take histories and vitals, prepare for examinations and procedures, and assist during treatments. A MA program with externship or clinical experience is required, with basic computer skills and BLS-C certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; MA program with externship preferred, or equivalent experience.
• Completion of MA externship (160 hours) is strongly preferred.
• One year of clinical medical assisting experience within the past five years acceptable.
• Professional MA certification (5+ years) or LPN license qualifies.
• Licensed Paramedic/EMT with 1 year clinical experience acceptable.
• Military trained medical personnel with clinical experience acceptable.
• Basic computer skills required (keyboard skills).
• Current BLS-C certificate required.
• CMA or RMA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet and escort patients to exam rooms and ensure a welcoming experience.
• Take medical histories and accurately measure and record vitals.
• Prepare patients for examinations and procedures and explain what to expect.
• Assist physicians during examinations and procedures with necessary support.
• Demonstrate clinical competence in ambulatory patient care procedures.

What You Will Do

• Greet and escort patients to the exam room, ensuring a welcoming and comfortable experience.
• Take medical histories and measure/record vital signs accurately.
• Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, ensuring they are informed and at ease.
• Assist physicians during examinations and procedures, providing necessary support.
• Demonstrate clinical competence in performing a wide variety of clinical skills related to ambulatory patient care.

What You Will Need

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum).OR

Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without completion of a clinical externship but with a minimum one-year experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five (5) years.OR

Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in clinical medical assisting. OR Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).OR

Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years.OR

Military trained medical personnel with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years

• Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills.
• Successful completion of HFMG pharmacology class and test.
• Current BLS-C certificate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
