Job summary

UnitedHealth Group’s WellMed division in Texas seeks a Medical Assistant to support physicians and nursing staff, operating diagnostic equipment, collecting specimens and performing routine procedures under supervision. This role focuses on accurate documentation, infection control, and patient care across the clinical team.

The position requires MA certification (or ability to obtain within 180 days) and a current BLS; you’ll work in a patient-centered environment with opportunities to grow

Qualifications

• Current, nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification or the ability to obtain within 180 days.
• Current BLS certification for healthcare providers at time of hire or within 30 days.
• Proven knowledge of medical terminology.
• Basic computer literacy including Word, Excel, Outlook and EMR systems.
• Proven ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• TB screening and proof of immunity to required diseases.

Responsibilities

• Performs all duties within the scope of a Medical Assistant's practice. Operates diagnostic equipment, collects cultures and blood specimens.
• Performs quality control checks on equipment.
• Prepares and sterilizes medical equipment using the autoclave.
• Puts patients at ease, rooms patients and prepares for examination.
• Records patient care documentation in the medical record accurately and in a timely manner.
• Coordinates patient care as directed by physicians and policies.
• Respects patient confidentiality and provides courteous care.
• Organizes exam and treatment rooms, stocks and cleans, sterilizes instruments.
• Practices standard infection control precautions.
• Supports and follows Standard Delegation of Orders (SDO).
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
