Job description

  • Escort patients to examination rooms and take and record vital signs
  • Collect and document patient health status and history and monitor patient progress
  • Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, and Point of Care tests
  • Prepare, document, and administer non-intravenous injections as directed and within scope of practice
  • Assist with routine physical examinations and clinical procedures
  • Review laboratory results and elevate abnormal results to physicians and appropriate personnel
  • Communicate observations and patient changes to licensed clinicians
  • Prepare, maintain, clean, sterilize, and repackage rooms, instruments, scopes, and patient equipment
  • Move, lift, position, and transport patients using proper safety techniques
  • Follow patient arrival and appointment scheduling procedures
  • Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges
  • Maintain clinical supplies, inventories, stock rotation, and requisitions
  • Maintain logs, patient charts, and medical records; enter and retrieve information from the electronic medical record
  • Process prescriptions and refills
  • Perform clerical duties including typing, filing, scheduling, correspondence, forms, phone calls, and patient-record documentation
  • Verify insurance coverage and eligibility and obtain prior authorizations, pre-certifications, and referrals
  • Collect patient co-payments and maintain records
  • Comply with departmental policies, health and safety regulations, quality-improvement practices, and attendance requirements
  • Attend required meetings, conferences, and seminars and perform related duties
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Heart Saver (HS) certification from the American Heart Association; if unavailable upon hire, must be obtained within 3 months of hire
  • Medical Assistant credential approved by the Massachusetts Department of Health (ARMA, NHA, etc.)
  • Ability to perform EKGs, phlebotomy, and Point of Care tests
  • Ability to prepare and administer non-intravenous injections within scope of practice
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk most of the time, push heavy equipment, and bend frequently
  • Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance
