Position Summary
This position functions as a member of the clinical team, completing daily clinical operations to ensure smooth day-to-day operations in the SMG physician practice. The Medical Assistant I must maintain a professional, positive manner when communicating with patients and all customers in-person, over the phone, or via email.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist providers in delivering high-quality care to patients.
- Provide excellent customer service to all patients.
- Room patients and prepare them for provider visits.
- Take vital signs and accurately record them in the EMR.
- Record patient history, chief complaints, pharmacy info, and prescriptions in EMR.
- Obtain necessary consents and complete required forms for specific visits.
- Perform in-office testing and EKGs as needed, including controls on certain tests.
- Assist providers with medical procedures in-office.
- Label specimens properly, following SMG policies.
- Chaperone providers as required.
- Administer vaccines and medications as ordered, adhering to policies.
- Follow workflows for TCM, CCM, and RPM if active.
- Stock rooms and monitor expiration dates of supplies.
- Monitor and log refrigerator temperatures for medications and vaccines.
- Assist with incoming calls, triaging and routing as needed.
- Follow scheduling rules and coordinate patient visits across practices.
- Review schedules and ensure provider has all necessary information for patient visits.
- Schedule patient appointments and tests as ordered.
- Perform outreach to patient groups for care and scheduling of specialty services.
- Notify manager of supply needs and assist with ordering.
- Obtain prior authorizations and insurance referrals as needed.
- Complete assigned clinical tasks timely.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Adhere to SMG policies and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills

- Experience with EMR systems (Athena preferred).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an approved medical assistant program or equivalent.
- One to three years of medical assistant experience preferred.
