Job description

The Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring the well-being of patients and providing a positive, supportive environment for patients and staff. The role involves working in conjunction with physicians, advanced practice clinicians, front office, and clinical staff. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills and a dedication to customer service and patient care.

Work Environment

This position is center-based, requiring work in a clinical setting. The noise level is moderate, with potential exposure to infectious diseases and blood-borne pathogens. It involves standing and sitting for hours, bending, stooping, manual dexterity, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Hours may vary based on location and patient volume.

Job Requirements
Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required
  • Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program (preferred)
Work Experience
  • Front Desk experience (preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire (through ARC or AHA)
  • One of the following certifications required or obtained within 15 months of hire:
    • CCMA, CMA, RMA, NCMA, or NRCMA (verified through respective certifying bodies)
  • CPOE certification for order entry required within two weeks of start and maintained during first 15 months
  • In lieu of MA certification, other healthcare certifications such as Nursing, LPN, RN, EMT, or CNA are acceptable at hire
Primary Responsibilities
  • Complete provider orders per regulations
  • Perform clinical intake, including vital signs and patient history
  • Assist patients with walking, transfers, specimen collection, and exam prep
  • Conduct occupational health testing and physicals
  • Handle patient referrals and callbacks
  • Document assessments and procedures accurately in EMR and paper records
  • Manage inventory and restock supplies
  • Maintain clinical equipment and ensure proper biohazard storage
  • Prepare patient rooms and set up instruments
  • Clean and maintain infection control standards
