Summary

The Medical Assistant is essential during the patient visit, accompanying the dermatologist in the room and promoting a friendly and efficient environment for patients, staff, and dermatologists.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

• Rooming patients and documenting all vital information
• Scribing information for the dermatologist
• Providing post-op wound care to patients
• Drawing blood and suture removal
• Cleaning and stocking exam rooms
• Scheduling patient appointments

Assisting the dermatologist with procedures such as:

• Surgical photographs
• Biopsies – punch, DIF, and shave
• Excisional procedures
• Electrodessication and curettage
• I&D procedures
• Mohs micrographic surgery
• Phototherapy
• Injections
• KOH preps
• Trichograms
• Tzank preps
• Dermabrasion
• Patch testing
• Blue light therapy

Qualifications

Education

Minimum post-high school education in a medical support field: Certified Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Registered Nurse. (Non-Certified Medical Assistants will need to complete the Forefront Derm Tech certification program within the prescribed time period and maintain certification upon expiration.)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• 1-2 years of recent experience in a medical office in a similar capacity is preferred
• Must keep current on all state certifications, licenses, and/or registrations
• Willingness to travel to other clinic locations as needed
• Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office and Electronic Medical Record systems
• Organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with staff, clients, and visitors
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work well both independently and as part of a team
