Job summary

Gastroenterology Associates of Tidewater in Chesapeake, VA is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team. This Full-Time role supports physicians, measures vital signs, collects specimens, and assists during visits.

We offer a work-life balance with no night shifts or weekend work, BLS certification required, high school diploma, and potential education reimbursement and 401(k) matching.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Medical Assistant Certification is preferred but not required.
• BLS certification is required.
• Experience in a medical office setting is required.

Responsibilities

• Measure vital signs, document in patient chart.
• Collect specimens for laboratory analysis as applicable.
• Obtain and record health history of patients.
• Assist physician during office visits and emergencies.
• Manage patient prescriptions and referrals as directed.
• Answer patient questions and notify test results.
• Prepare exam rooms and maintain infection control guidelines.
• Administer IM and subcutaneous medications as directed.
• Assist with scheduling and coordinating tests and procedures.

Gastroenterology Associates of Tidewater is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team in Chesapeake, VA to help drive patient success in our community.

What you will do:

• Measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and documents all information in patient's chart.
• Collect specimens for laboratory analysis, as applicable.
• Obtain, verify, and record health history of patients.
• Assist the physician with office visits. Must be able to assist physician in an emergency.
• Manage patient prescriptions as directed by physician.
• Manage referrals as directed by physician.
• Answer patient questions. Notify patients of test results.
• Review procedure reports to ensure patients have hospital orders and needed clearances have been received.
• Escort patients to exam rooms and/or throughout the office as needed.
• Adhere to infection control/safety guidelines.
• Prepare examination rooms to include cleaning and restocking of supplies.
• Assist with dressing and undressing of patients as needed.
• Administer intramuscular and subcutaneous medications as directed by physician (dosage must be verified).
• Perform phlebotomy for lab work and complete required forms.*
• Assist with scheduling office visits, procedures, laboratory tests, x-rays, outpatient testing, hospital admissions and appointments as necessary.

What you bring:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Medical Assistant Certification preferred, but not required.
• Previous experience working in a medical office environment required.
• BLS Certified required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology required.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
