Job summary

Cone Health is seeking an Emergency Department Clinical Care Coordinator to lead daily ED operations, mentor staff, and ensure patient safety and quality of care. The role emphasizes communication with patients, families, and clinicians, and collaboration with clinical engineering and purchasing to maintain equipment readiness.

Required nursing licensure in North Carolina or a compact state, 5 years RN experience with at least 1 year in a clinical specialty, and BLS/CPR certification.

Qualifications

• Required: 5 years as a Registered Nurse and 1 year in a Clinical Specialty as defined by ANCC or National Nursing Organizations.
• Must hold RN license in North Carolina or a Compact state BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
• BLS (CPR) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the Emergency Department unit to provide leadership and ensure clinical competence.
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, discharge instructions, and follow-ups.
• Assess patient care equipment safety with Clinical Engineering and Facilities Maintenance.
• Replenish patient care equipment in collaboration with Purchasing and supply chain.
• Attend committee, team, and council meetings to communicate department priorities.
• Communicate abnormal lab results to patients after discharge with physicians, pharmacy, and lab.
• Complete departmental audits on high-risk procedures to educate staff and ensure safety.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

The Emergency Department Clinical Care Coordinator facilitates interactions with Emergency Department patients and families, staff, and administration. Working under limited supervision, this role assesses staff performance and interviews new candidates.

Essential Job Function

• Supports the Emergency Department Nursing Director by overseeing the daily operations of the unit in order to function as a leader and ensure clinical competence.
• Supports patient knowledge of diagnoses, discharge instructions, and follow ups in order to function as a clinical resource of knowledge.
• Assesses the functioning of patient care equipment in collaboration with Clinical Engineering and Facilities Maintenance in order to ensure a safe patient environment.
• Replenishes patient care special equipment in collaboration with Purchasing and supply chain to maintain sufficient availability for procedures.
• Attends committee, team, and council meetings to enhance communication skills and represent the department's priorities.
• Communicates abnormal lab results to patients after discharge in collaboration with the physicians, pharmacy, and lab in order to deliver information and provide guidance.
• Completes departmental audits on high-risk procedures in order to educate staff and monitor performance to build staff knowledge and ensure safety.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
