Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking a Nurse Aide for Med Surg Float (Full Time, Nights). Under RN supervision, you will perform routine nursing support duties to ensure patient comfort and safety. You will help prepare rooms, assist with ADLs, and participate in unit activities.

The role focuses on delivering patient-centered care, observing and reporting changes, and maintaining a clean, safe environment while collaborating with nursing staff and hospital leadership.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification (AHA) and first aid training required.
• De-escalation training provided on job.
• Ability to read and write at an elementary school level to understand the plan of care and record data.
• Ability to perform simple arithmetic calculations to take and record weight, vital signs, and I&O.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with patients and families that demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
• Basic analytical skills to gather data, compare, interpret, and report outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Deliver basic nursing care to meet patient needs.
• Respond promptly to patient call lights and relay information to the nursing staff.
• Observe patients and report changes in condition to the nurse.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and nourishment.
• Prepare rooms/equipment for procedures and maintain clean, safe environments.
• Participate in orientation and ongoing staff education and training.
