Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking a Nurse Aide for Med Surg Float, full-time days. Under RN supervision, you perform routine nursing tasks to support patient care, safety, and comfort.

You will help with room prep, patient rounds, and basic nursing procedures, while maintaining a clean, safe environment and assisting with workflow across units. The role emphasizes teamwork, adherence to safety protocols, and patient-centered care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification (AHA only) and first aid training.
• De-escalation training provided on the job.
• Ability to read and write at an elementary school level to understand care plans and to record data.
• Ability to perform simple arithmetic to record weight, vital signs, and intake/output.
• Interpersonal skills to interact with patients and families across cultures.
• Basic analytical skills to gather data, perform comparisons, and report outcomes.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver basic nursing care to provide for patient comfort and safety.
• Respond promptly to patient call lights and relay needs to the nurse.
• Observe patients and report any changes in condition promptly.
• Assist with activities of daily living and adapt care to patient needs.
• Provide direct care such as vital signs, baths, skin care, catheter care, and specimen collection.
• Demonstrate proper turning, positioning, and transferring techniques.
• Distribute nourishment and assist with feeding as needed.
• Document intake, output, and meals accurately in the medical record.
• Maintain a clean, safe patient environment and orderly service rooms.
• Collaborate with staff and management to improve patient care and environment.
