Job summary

IMEG is seeking a Mechanical Project Designer in Germantown, MD to lead design for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection across projects of varying complexity. You will work with engineers and consultants to deliver engineering solutions, manage budgets, and mentor cross-functional teams. Ideal candidates have a BS in Mechanical Engineering, EIT preferred, and 5–9 years in building design.

U.S. citizenship is required for federal contracts, with up to 15% travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering required.
• Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
• 5+ years in building design consulting; 6+ preferred.
• Associates degree or certificate in BIM/Engineering preferred.
• 9+ years in building design or construction industry (10+ preferred).
• U.S. citizenship required due to federal contract.
• Proficiency in design techniques and engineering software.

Responsibilities

• Lead design for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
• Create detailed designs, specs, and calculations per codes and IMEG standards.
• Collaborate with clients to understand needs and build relationships.
• Support project execution with budgeting and scheduling oversight.
• Document design decisions, progress, and fees.
• Analyze problems and develop practical engineering solutions.
• Perform in-process design reviews with IMEG QC processes.
• Stay current on industry trends and innovations.
• Prioritize safety by mitigating risks in mechanical systems.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across bidding and construction.
