Qualifications

• Trade certificate or equivalent qualification required.
• Minimum of 3 years of mechanical maintenance experience in industrial/manufacturing settings.

• Lockout/tagout knowledge and safety regulations familiarity.
• Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and gearboxes is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment including pumps, motors, conveyors, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical breakdowns promptly to minimize downtime.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and manuals.
• Overhaul, adjust, and replace worn or defective parts.
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.

About the Role

Our client, a major industrial facility in Welkom , Free State, is seeking a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join their dedicated team. This role is essential for ensuring the reliable operation and upkeep of all mechanical equipment within the plant. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine maintenance, diagnosing and repairing mechanical failures, and implementing preventative maintenance programs. This is a hands‑on position that requires a strong mechanical aptitude and a commitment to safety and operational excellence within the Manufacturing & Production sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on a wide range of mechanical equipment, including pumps, motors, conveyors, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical breakdowns and malfunctions promptly to minimize downtime.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
• Overhaul, adjust, and replace worn or defective parts as necessary.
• Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs performed.
• Ensure all maintenance work is performed in accordance with safety regulations and company procedures.
• Assist in the installation and commissioning of new mechanical equipment.
• Participate in root cause analysis for recurring mechanical failures.
• Respond to emergency maintenance calls as needed.
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement in maintenance practices.

Requirements

• Trade Certificate (e.g., Millwright, Fitter and Turner) or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in maintaining and repairing various types of mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and gearboxes.
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings and schematics.
• Experience with welding, fabrication, and machining is advantageous.
• Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills.
• Knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures and general workplace safety regulations.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work shifts and respond to after‑hours calls when required.
• Commitment to quality and attention to detail in all tasks performed.
