Job summary

MillerWorks is looking to fill a Mechanical Foreman position in Tallahassee, FL. Position Summary:

The Mechanical Foreman is a working field leader responsible for coordinating and directing the daily activities of assigned mechanical crews. This position performs hands‑on work while guiding pipefitters, apprentices and helpers to ensure tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans and company standards. The Mechanical Foreman works under the direction of the Job Superintendent to execute established work plans, support productivity goals, and maintain quality and safety on the jobsite.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead and participate in the layout, fabrication, assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, mechanical, and industrial piping at jobsite locations.
  • Assign and coordinate daily work activities based on direction from the Job Superintendent and project requirements.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and shop drawings to support accurate field installation.
  • Assist in coordinating piping layouts, material staging, equipment usage, and workflow to support efficient field operations.
  • Monitor crew productivity and workmanship, providing guidance to maintain efficiency and quality standards.
  • Lead and assist crews in measuring, cutting, threading, grooving, brazing, soldering, welding, and installing pipe and supports, including carbon steel pipe.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical system issues, installation conflicts, leaks, and field‑related problems.
  • Lead and assist with pressure testing and verification of piping systems to ensure proper operation and functionality.
  • Communicate job site progress, issues, and material needs to the Job Superintendent.
  • Ensure proper use and care of tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Reinforce company safety policies and address unsafe conditions or behaviors as they arise.
  • Train and mentor crew members to support skill development.
  • Maintain required daily reports, time records, and production tracking.
  • Support coordination with other trades to minimize conflicts and maintain project progress.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical systems, installation methods, and tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and codes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate small to mid‑sized field crews.
  • Working knowledge of jobsite safety practices and requirements.
  • Ability to organize daily work and adjust tasks based on field conditions.
  • Effective communication skills with crew members, supervisors, and other trades.
  • Ability to identify and resolve routine job site issues.
  • Skill in the installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate field crews while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to fifty (50) pounds without assistance and up to twenty‑five (25) pounds overhead.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and on ladders or scaffolding.
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, noise, and dust, while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to use hands and tools to grasp, manipulate, and assemble materials and equipment.
  • Ability to operate standard construction tools and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Ability to maintain balance and coordination while performing job tasks in active construction environments.
  • Ability to see and hear sufficiently to recognize hazards and perform job duties safely.
  • Sufficient visual and auditory ability to observe work conditions, communicate effectively, and identify potential safety or operational issues.
