  • Seal joints, install insulation and verify connections for leaks and operation.
  • Maintain tools and work areas in a safe, organized condition and follow safety policies.

Job description

MillerWorks is looking to fill a Duct Installer position in Tallahassee, FL. MillerWorks is a commercial plumbing and mechanical contractor built on quality, innovation, and dependable workmanship. Position Summary:

The Duct Installer is responsible for installing commercial HVAC ductwork and related components in accordance with project drawings, specifications, and quality standards. This position works as part of a field installation crew to complete assigned work safely, accurately, and efficiently while identifying and communicating installation issues to field leadership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promote and demonstrate MillerWorks’ Core Values of Dependability, Integrity, Hard Work, and Positive Attitude.
  • Install commercial HVAC ductwork, vents, diffusers, grilles, and related components in accordance with project drawings, specifications, and applicable requirements.
  • Measure, position, assemble, connect, and secure ductwork and related components to walls, ceilings, structural supports, and other designated locations.
  • Complete duct connections, including fastening and sealing joints and seams and installing insulation or related materials as required.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, specifications, and other project information necessary to complete assigned installation work.
  • Inspect installed work for proper fit, alignment, sealing, workmanship, and compliance with project requirements and assist with testing for leaks and proper operation as required.
  • Identify field conditions, installation conflicts, material needs, or other issues that may affect the work and promptly communicate them to appropriate field leadership.
  • Coordinate and work effectively with supervisors, other crew members, and trades to support project schedules and efficient completion of assigned work.
  • Follow all company safety policies, job site safety requirements, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and promptly report unsafe conditions or practices.
  • Maintain company tools, equipment, materials, and work areas in a safe, organized, and appropriate manner.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic commercial HVAC ductwork systems, components, materials, and installation methods.
  • Knowledge of proper methods for assembling, connecting, supporting, fastening, and sealing ductwork and related components.
  • Knowledge of basic construction and jobsite safety practices, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Skill in reading and interpreting basic blueprints, construction drawings, measurements, and specifications related to assigned work.
  • Skill in accurately measuring, positioning, fitting, and installing ductwork and related HVAC components.
  • Skill in safely using hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and other equipment commonly used in duct installation.
  • Ability to identify installation problems, field conflicts, material needs, and deficiencies and communicate them promptly to field leadership.
  • Ability to follow instructions, established installation procedures, project requirements, and assigned work priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with supervisors, crew members, and other trades in an active construction environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience installing commercial HVAC ductwork or performing closely related sheet metal/HVAC installation work.
  • Basic experience reading construction drawings, measurements, and installation details.
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools commonly associated with ductwork installation.
  • Basic understanding of commercial construction and jobsite safety practices.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a field installation crew.
  • Reliable transportation to assigned work locations as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) or more years of commercial HVAC duct installation experience.
  • Trade school, apprenticeship, or other HVAC/sheet metal training.
  • Experience installing a variety of commercial ductwork systems, supports, diffusers, grilles, and related components.
  • Experience working from commercial HVAC drawings and specifications.
  • OSHA 10 or other recognized construction safety training.
  • Experience operating aerial lifts or similar equipment used in commercial duct installation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, crawl, reach, climb, balance, and work in various positions for extended periods.
  • Ability to frequently use hands and arms to handle, position, assemble, and install materials and operate hand and power tools.
  • Ability to safely climb and work from ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, and other elevated work platforms.
  • Ability to frequently perform work at or above shoulder level, including overhead installation activities.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to fifty (50) pounds without assistance and heavier materials or equipment with appropriate assistance or mechanical means.
  • Ability to safely navigate uneven surfaces, active construction areas, confined or limited-access spaces, rooftops, and other areas commonly encountered on commercial construction sites.
  • Visual and auditory ability sufficient to read construction drawings and measurements, operate tools and equipment, identify hazards, and safely perform assigned work.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods and in varying environmental conditions.
