Job description

Northrop Grumman is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Manager 2 in Baltimore, MD. The role requires U.S. citizenship, an active DoD Secret clearance, and the ability to work onsite full‑time at the BWI facility.

Relocation assistance is not available. Travel is required up to 10% of the time.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a functional group of 10–15 mechanical engineers, including performance management, merit planning, job assignment, onboarding, and coaching.
  • Engage the team with timely flow‑down of information and foster robust collaboration within the group.
  • Collaborate with project team leads to support project planning and execution, labor and material cost estimation, staffing, design process execution, and more.
  • Maintain awareness of each member’s project responsibilities and performance, provide guidance, and help identify resources needed to overcome obstacles.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of applicable design processes, guidelines, policies, and best practices, ensuring team compliance.
  • Lead department initiatives such as process improvement, workforce engagement, recruiting and interviewing, training material development, technology roadmap development, and cross‑organization collaboration.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in an engineering or technical leadership role.
  • 6+ years of demonstrated success leading, collaborating, and building teams on complex technical projects.
  • 8 years of experience across all phases of the hardware engineering lifecycle: requirements, architecture, concepts, critical design, drawing development, test, vendor/build follow‑on, and production support.
  • Familiarity with engineering development processes, roles, tools, and documentation facilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM fields with 8 years of experience, a master’s degree with 6 years, or a Ph.D. with 4 years; alternatively, 4 years of experience may substitute for a degree.
  • U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated success in functional management, project management, or similar technical leadership roles.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) and Control Account Management (CAM) techniques.
  • Experience designing ruggedized electronic hardware, especially antennas, microelectronic packages, and circuit card assemblies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project, MPLM, Siemens Teamcenter, NX, and related tools.

Primary Level Salary Range: $139,800 – $209,800 (base salary). Employees may also be eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and, for higher positions, long‑term incentives.
