Job summary

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems seeks a Mechanical Engineering Manager 2 located in Roy, UT. The role requires an active DoD Secret clearance and a strong mix of leadership and technical skills to guide design, analysis and procurement workflows.

Collaboration with stakeholders and cross-functional teams is essential for on-time delivery. The candidate should demonstrate extensive experience across the mechanical/electro/mechanical lifecycle, CAD/PLM tools, and strong communication.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university with 8 years of related experience, or a Master’s Degree with 6 years of relevant experience
  • Active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at application and ability to obtain SAP approval
  • 5+ years in electro/mechanical engineering lifecycle phases: requirements, architecture, concepts, critical design, drawings, testing, production support

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to decompose requirements and conduct trade studies
  • Generate specifications for suppliers and support procurement workflows
  • Develop design artifacts for reviews, customer deliverables, and lifecycle management
  • Review supplier drawings and contractual deliveries
  • Ensure team training and access to necessary tools
  • Support EVMS and track cost and schedule metrics
  • Develop and review engineering packages for PLM releases
  • Foster collaboration and timely information flow within the team

Role Overview

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager 2. This position will be located in Roy, UT.
This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

What You’ll Get to Do
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to decompose technical requirements, develop complete and verifiable requirements, and conduct trade studies
  • Generate and update specifications as part of a Systems Engineering framework for the purpose of releasing to suppliers and supporting the procurement process
  • Develop design and analysis artifacts to support design reviews, customer deliverables, and hardware procurement workflows
  • Review and provide comments on supplier‑submitted drawings and contractual deliveries
  • Ensure team members have the required training, tools, and access to perform design engineering responsibilities.
  • Provide support for Earned Value Management System (EVMS). Support the development and track key performance cost and schedule metrics.
  • Develop and review engineering packages for product lifecycle management release.
  • Engage the functional team with timely flow‑down of information and fostering robust collaboration within the team.
  • Collaborate with project team leads, to support project planning and execution activities, labor and material cost estimation, staffing, design process execution, etc.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of applicable design processes, guidelines, policies, and best practices, and ensuring that all functional team members are aware of and are compliant with these items.
  • Drive on‑time delivery of work products to support the design timelines of the organization.
  • Ensure schedules and program plans are credible, substantiated by quantitative data, and bound by risks and opportunities.
  • Provide regular briefings, reports, and other communications to executive leadership.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) disciplines from an accredited university and 8 years of related experience, or a Master’s Degree in a related discipline and 6 years of relevant experience
  • Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need
  • 5+ years of experience in the different phases of the electro/mechanical engineering lifecycle: requirement, architecture, concepts, critical design, drawing development, test, vendor/build follow and production support
  • Experience with CAD modeling standards, techniques, and tool
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management tools
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have
  • Demonstrated success in functional management, project management, or similar technical leadership role.
  • 1+ years' experience leading a project and/or driving performance against schedule
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) & Control Account Management (CAM) techniques, and responsibilities.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project, Siemens Teamcenter, and Siemens NX
  • Proficient with GD&T and ASME Y14.5-2009
Primary Level Salary Range

$139,800.00 - $209,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
