Job summary

Qualifications

  • Active U.S. Government DoD Secret clearance at time of application.
  • Ability to obtain SAP approval as required.
  • 8+ years of experience in electro/mechanical engineering lifecycle phases (requirements, architecture, concepts, design, drawing development, testing, vendor follow-up, production support).
  • Experience with CAD modeling standards, techniques, and tools.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management tools.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to decompose technical requirements, develop verifiable requirements, and conduct trade studies.
  • Generate and update specifications for release to suppliers and support procurement processes.
  • Develop and analyze design artifacts to support reviews, customer deliverables, and hardware procurement workflows.
  • Review supplier drawings and contractual deliveries.
  • Ensure team has training, tools, and access to perform design engineering responsibilities.
  • Support EVMS, tracking cost and schedule metrics.
  • Develop and review engineering packages for lifecycle management release.
  • Foster collaboration across functional teams and project leads for planning, staffing, and design execution.
  • Maintain knowledge of design processes, guidelines and best practices to ensure compliance.
  • Drive on-time delivery of work products and credible program plans.
  • Provide regular briefings and communications to executive leadership.

Job description

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager 2 to be located in Roy, UT. The role will involve leading a multifunctional engineering team, collaborating with stakeholders, and ensuring the timely delivery of high‑quality design solutions within a systems engineering framework. This position requires a U.S. Government DoD Secret clearance at the time of application and the ability to obtain Special Access Program approval as needed.

Relocation Assistance

Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates. This role also includes a travel commitment of approximately 10% of the time.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to decompose technical requirements, develop complete and verifiable requirements, and conduct trade studies.
  • Generate and update specifications as part of a systems engineering framework for release to suppliers and support procurement processes.
  • Develop and analyze design artifacts to support design reviews, customer deliverables, and hardware procurement workflows.
  • Review and comment on supplier‑submitted drawings and contractual deliveries.
  • Ensure team members have the required training, tools, and access to perform design engineering responsibilities.
  • Provide support for the Earned Value Management System (EVMS), tracking key performance cost and schedule metrics.
  • Develop and review engineering packages for product lifecycle management release.
  • Engage the functional team with timely flow‑down of information and foster robust collaboration.
  • Collaborate with project team leads to support project planning and execution activities, including labor and material cost estimation, staffing, and design process execution.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of applicable design processes, guidelines, policies, and best practices and ensure compliance across the team.
  • Drive on‑time delivery of work products to support design timelines.
  • Ensure schedules and program plans are credible, substantiated by quantitative data, and bounded by risks and opportunities.
  • Provide regular briefings, reports, and other communications to executive leadership.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and at least 8 years of related experience, OR a Master’s degree in a related discipline and at least 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Active U.S. Government DoD Secret clearance at the time of application, current and within scope, with the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval as required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the different phases of the electro/mechanical engineering lifecycle (requirement, architecture, concepts, critical design, drawing development, test, vendor/build follow‑up, and production support).
  • Experience with CAD modeling standards, techniques, and tools.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management tools.
Nice to Have
  • Demonstrated success in functional management, project management, or similar technical leadership role.
  • At least 1 year of experience leading a project or driving performance against schedule.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) and Control Account Management (CAM) techniques.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project, Siemens Teamcenter, and Siemens NX.
  • Proficiency with GD&T and ASME Y14.5‑2009.

Salary

The primary level salary range for this position is $139,800.00–$209,800.00. Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers, including the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Additional compensation such as overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and long‑term incentives may be available for qualifying roles.
